RescuEAN Pod information

Since 2007, the RescuEAN Pod has been adopted by both professional and recreational divers worldwide. It has been included in leading recreational agency Oxygen Administration training with both PADI and SDI creating distinctive specialties in its use. The Pod is robust and highly corrosion resistant allowing it, if desired, to be carried underwater (for shore/cave diving) or to be left ready for immediate use either on the shore or on a RIB/Boat. It is ideal for individual divers to take on holiday where Oxygen administration equipment cannot be guaranteed.

MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION:

The following sections are designed to provide the Pod user with more information and a set of guidelines for use:

The RescuEAN Pod was designed as an emergency alternative for providing gas mixtures with an increased fraction of inspired Oxygen (FiO2) to injured divers who will benefit from increased Oxygen partial pressures during resuscitation, stabilisation and evacuation to an appropriate medical facility or while awaiting for such evacuation to occur. Due to the physiological effects of emergency Oxygen administration, the highest possible FiO2 should be achieved.  Although the Pod can be used with any mix, we advocate that you use the highest possible decompression mix available, or 100% Oxygen from a closed circuit rebreather (CCR) before using standard Nitrox diving mixes.

MORE INFORMATION

As part of  any pre-dive planning procedure, analysed and note the Oxygen percentage of any dive and decompression gas mix being carried.  To save time in the event of an emergency - also check any other divers cylinder’s  mix percentage.  This will help in quickening reaction time should a problem occur, remembering to use the gas with the highest Oxygen percentage in the first instance.

MORE INFORMATION

After each time the Pod is exposed to the elements or immersed/sprayed with water or on a boat/RIB - the Pod should be thoroughly rinsed with fresh, clean water and purged by connecting to a low pressure hose and blown through to clear of water, debris, etc.

In many instances, the Pod may not be used for long periods of time. In this event, every three months, the Pod should be tested by setting up and checking its functions - BEFORE taking as a safety back-up on a dive outing. Please advise RescuEAN of any concerns by  telephone or email.

POD USE IN CAVE DIVING...

“I was lent a RESCUEAN Pod for my trip to France. I was impressed how light, compact and durable the kit is, it is certainly feasible that it could be transported underground to a remote site either in an emergency or as a precaution. You can also dive with the kit as it doesn’t contain any sealed air spaces. There would be little need to worry about packaging it carefully for a trip underground as both the connectors and well protected and covered with rubber caps.”

More about the Pod WW

An important aspect of the Pod’s use is that the gas flow through the RescuEAN Pod is at low pressure having passed through a 1st stage - the friction risk is, therefore, greatly reduced.

As the Oxygen concentration in a cylinder can vary greatly - common sense and safety procedures (Please also refer to your Diving Certifier’s Guidelines for use of higher Oxygen concentrations) should make the use of the Pod safe for both the rescuer and the casualty.
